So, Mom and I went birding yesterday and today by ourselves; Dad was in the mountains on a birding trip, but Mom and I couldn't go.  Turns out we had better birds than they did!  Today we saw a rare bird for the area, a Wilson's Warbler.  And there were two male Yellow Warblers together at one stop.  I joke that they look like bloody egg yolks; they're egg yolk yellow with these bright rusty streaks on the front.  Warblers are hard to see because they're small and dart all over the place catching insects.  They're beautiful during spring migration because they're in bright breeding plumage, whereas when they come back through in fall they're losing their colours.  We birded for over four hours, and since the weather was nice, it was a lot of fun.

We took Mom out for dinner to Chinese, which was excellent as usual.  Hope all the mothers out there had good Mother's Days, too.

So, I totally found a bunch of clothes I'd forgotten about in the spare room, including an old peasant shirt/skirt combo from middle school.  It totally fits better now, too.  With the addition of my bustier from RenFaire, it's quite the ensemble.  I'll post pictures later: off-the-shoulders white shirt, the black side of the bustier (and, let me say, if Elizabeth had worn a front-lace corset in Pirates, she wouldn't have needed help to get it on, not to mention might have been able to breathe), and a light dusty blue ankle skirt.  I left my hair down.

I just went down where my folks are watching the Georgia-Florida game and went, "So, I've got my costume."

Surprisingly, my mom thought it was a good look.  Dad goes, "What's it supposed to be?" and mom goes, "Wench."  I just struck a pose.  I'm totally not telling her "At least this time I'm not wearing a bra".

Well, this comes a bit late, but here I am, home for the summer. So far, so good on the parental front, though one never knows when that might change. So, things I need to do:

Listy things )

In other cool news, we finished the rest of Tombs of the Cybermen, and my dad liked it! He liked it enough to want to watch more with me. I love sucking my parents into my fandoms; I did that with The West Wing too. Then we watched the first episode of The Dinosaurs, which I also have on DVD, because all of us remember it from TV, and how hilarious it was. Good times.
