Okay, I'm starting a really long crochet project (technically, I started it last night, I suppose). I'm making an afghan. It's a pretty easy pattern so far; I got it out of a library book, so I'm going to post the instructions on here for me so I don't have to constantly try to renew the book. It's such an old book that it doesn't include an international symbol pattern with the written instructions. o.O
Anyway, I'll keep this under a cut.
Square (make 54)
Ch 6, join with a sl st to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as a dc in this and all following rnds), dc in ring, PC (Work 5 dc in st or ring; drop lp from hook, insert hook in first dc made and draw dropped lp through st on hook: PC made) in ring, 2 dc in ring; *ch 2, in ring work (2 dc, PC, 2 dc); rep from * twice more; ch 2; join with a sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-3.
Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in next dc, dc in st behind PC, dc in next 2 dc; *in next ch-2 sp work (dc, ch 3, dc): corner made; dc in next 2 dc, dc in st behind next PC, dc in next 2 dc; rep from * twice more; in next ch-2 sp work (dc, ch 3, dc): corner made; join with a sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-3.
Rnd 3: Ch3, PC in next dc, dc in next dc, PC in next dc, dc in next 2 dc; *in next ch-3 corner sp work (dc, ch 3, dc): corner made; dc in next 2 dc, PC in next dc, dc in next dc, PC in next dc, dc in next 2 dc; rep from * twice more; in next ch-3 corner sp work (dc, ch 3, dc): corner made; dc in next dc; join with a sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-3.
Rnd 4: Ch 3, *# dc in st behind next PC, dc in next dc, dc in st behind next PC, dc in next 3 dc; in next ch-3 corner sp work (dc, ch 4, dc): corner made #; dc in next 3 dc; rep from * twice more, then rep from # to # once; dc in next 2 dc; join with a sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-3.
Rnd 5: Sl st in next dc, ch 3, *PC in next dc, dc in next dc, PC in next dc, dc in next 3 dc; in next ch-4 corner sp work (dc, ch 4, dc): corner made; dc in next 3 dc, PC in next dc, dc in next dc; rep from * 3 times more, ending last rep without working last dc; join with a sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-3.
Rnd 6: Ch 3, *dc in st behind next PC, dc in next dc, dc in st behind next PC, dc in next 4 dc; in next ch-4 corner sp work (dc, ch 5, dc): corner made; dc in next 4 dc, dc in st behind next PC, dc in next dc; rep from * 3 times more, ending last rep without working last dc; join with a sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-3.
Rnd 7: Ch 3, dc in next 8 dc; *in next ch-5 corner sp work (3 dc, trc, 3 dc): corner made; dc in next 15 dc; rep from * twice more; in next ch-5 corner sp work (3 dc, trc, 3 dc): corner made; dc in next 6 dc; join with a sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch-3; finish off.
Assembling
Join squares in 9 rows of 6 squares. To join squares, hold two squares with right sides tog. Carefully matching sts on both squares, sew with overcast st in bls only [When joining granny squares or other pieces of crochet, we often tell you to sew through back loops only. Do this with an overcast stitch, working through the outer loops (loop farthest from you of top two loops). Take care not to pull the sewing stitches too tightly] across side, beg and ending with one corner st. Join squares in rows; then sew rows tog in same manner, being sure that all four-corner junctions are firmly joined.
Border
With right side of afghan facing you, join yarn with a sl st in trc of upper right-hand outer corner.
Row 1: Ch 1, in same trc work (dc, sc); *# sc in each st across square to last st before joining, hdc in next st #; rep from # to # 4 times more; sc in each st across square to trc in next outer corner; in trc work (sc, dc, sc); rep from # to # 8 times; sc in each st across square to trc in next outer corner; in trc work (sc, dc, sc); rep from * once more, omitting last (sc, dc, sc); join with a sl st in beg ch-1.
Row 2: Ch 1, 3 sc in next dc, sc in each st around afghan, working 3 sc in each dc of each rem outer corner; join with a sl st in beg ch-1; finish off and weave in ends.
Fringe
Following Fringe instructions [cut a piece of cardboard about 6" wide and half as long as instructions for strands plus 1/2" for trimming allowance. Wind yarn loosely and evenly lengthwise around cardboard. When card is filled, cut yarn across one end. Do this several times, then begin fringing; you can wind additional strands as you need them. Single Knot Fringe Hold specified number of strands for one knot of fringe together, then fold in half. Hold afghan with right side facing you. Use crochet hook to draw folded end through space or stitch from right to wrong side, pull loose ends through folded section and draw knot up firmly. Space knots as indicated in pattern instructions], make single knot fringe. Cut 20" strands; use 6 strands for each knot. Tie knots evenly spaced (about every 3rd st) across each short end of afghan. Trim ends evenly.
Anyway, I'll keep this under a cut.
