Filched from [livejournal.com profile] wings128, who posted the loveliest bookcase I've yet seen and challenged us to post our own bookcases, here is the messy shelves as seen from my bed at home.

You'll totally notice the many books crammed sideways on top of others when I ran out of room--these are just my favourites to re-read. There are a few others in my spare room and downstairs. Can't own too many books, after all.
rhia_starsong: (angel!john)
So, after several days, my answers to the meme from [livejournal.com profile] wings128:

The first ten songs on my iPod's shuffle in order:

1. Got A Hold On Me - Hanson
2. Maybe World - Mary Chapin Carpenter
3. Anvil Chorus - Glenn Miller
4. Firefly-Main Title - Sonny Rhodes
5. In The Mood - Glenn Miller
6. Hey - Hanson
7. Invincible - OK Go
8. American Patrol - Glenn Miller
9. Been There Before - Hanson
10. Flesh and Bone (Battlestar Galactica Season 1) - Bear McCreary

Awesome, my drive to work in the morning will be filled with good music, looks like.

Um, I don't know ten people on LJ anymore, so whoever sees this and feels compelled to answer, consider yourselves tagged?

I'll do this meme.  Ganked from [livejournal.com profile] wings128:

P.S. [livejournal.com profile] wings128, I'm afraid you're watching all the worst exports my country has to offer!  Also, I'm a tad embarrassed to admit to watching some of these...

I picked this up from [livejournal.com profile] wings128 and figured I'd give it a go.  Unfortunately, it kind of highlights how boring my life is.

What was the last book you read?

Into the Black: Odyssey One by Evan Currie and Jingo! by Terry Pratchett

What was the last TV show you watched?
Jeopardy! tonight; there's not really anything else good on TV any more.

What was the last movie you saw?
Uh, it might have been The Hunger Games...last year.  Again, they totally quit making movies I care about.

What was the last album you listened to?
Well, I listen to my iPod on shuffle, so I don't usually listen to a single album at a time.

What was the last video game you played?
Dragon Age a couple of years ago.

Bonus round: What was the last fanfic you read?
Reread By My Side by rinkafic.

So, um, yes, see how boring my life really is, internet!

So, the job was pretty neat.  I like my co-workers so far, and it looks like there will be enough interesting work to keep me busy and not bored.  Also, I am now the official Keeper of the Office Keys, including the extra/guest key fobs to let people into the office.  I'm thinking of putting up a sign in my office/cubicle thing that says 'Gatekeeper'.

The lady that had the job before me apparently quit without notice and didn't even come back to clean out her desk, so we also spent part of the day cleaning out her crap (including tea bags, a bajillion packets of salt and pepper, antacids, and personal paperwork) as well as trying to determine what to do with the various files she left.

I have decided I quite like having two monitor screens, but despise the desktop keyboard.  It's too big, and it's one of those that curves around a bit at the bottom, thus making typing harder.  :(  Oh, well.

They took us out to lunch today, which was really nice.  I even got to leave at the leisurely hour of 9 this morning, though, as if to make up for it, tomorrow I have to be there at 8:30 because the president of the company is coming and she gets there early.

In honour of All Hallow's Eve, I'm inviting trick-or-treaters to my 'door.'

Comment with "Trick or Treat" to this post and... well, you know the drill. Treats can be anything that strikes my fancy (pics of fave actors or pairings, graphics, a few words why I'm glad to have you on my flist, one sentence fics, etc. etc.).

The more "houses" to visit the more fun it'll be, so go ahead, open your journal and help spread the fun!

Um, maybe not so much the fic offerings, but who knows, I might be inspired!

rhia_starsong: (Default)
Well, I went to a job fair hosted by my alma mater this morning; I only had two companies that I could even think about looking at, and one of them didn't show up.  The other was pretty much a waste of time, since the advice amounted to, "You can apply online", which I already knew.  Plus, my navy shoes are apparently the work of evil, since, in the probably 45 minutes I wore them (which included the drive to and from school), they managed to rub one toe raw and give me a blister on another.  Sigh.

On the other hand, we're doing well in the AfterElton slash tourney against Dean/Castiel, so that is cool.

Taken from several of you on my flist, a meme:

So comment and I will tell you:
  1. Tell you why I friended you (if I remember)
  2. Associate you with something
  3. Tell you something I like about you
  4. Tell you a memory I have of you
  5. Associate you with a character/pairing
  6. Ask you something I've always wanted to know about you
  7. Tell you my favourite userpic
  8. Tell you that you most post this to your own lj/dw.

So, I haven't updated in a while.  I'm visiting the other set of parentals in (another) hot hellhole with heartily annoying in-laws.  You know what I haven't done in even longer?  A meme-thingy.  So, via [livejournal.com profile] neevebrody, the name analysis meme:

My username, apparently, is made of iron, singing, and kindness. With a dash of Jeopardy.

o.O

I can't even tell you how accurate this is.  Iron, whatever, but I did chorus in church and school for probably over a decade.  And my family and I have watched Jeopardy for my entire life.  In fact, one of my college entrance essays was about watching Jeopardy with my dad.  I don't know how that thing works, but it's kind of eerie.

I just finished watching the men's gymnastics Olympic trials.  Yum.  My dad was wondering why I thought that was interesting--he'd just professed to like football because of the cheerleaders.  I said, "It's muscular young men in spandex.  What's not to like?"  I think he still thinks I'm nuts, but whatever.  The man likes synchronised swimming, for Chrissakes.  What does he know?

1. Reply to this post with "UNICORNS", and I will pick five of your icons.

2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.

3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.

4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

Icons selected by [livejournal.com profile] aadarshinah

My IE is acting up, and so it's giving me difficulty with pics today, so I'm just going with their names until I figure out WTF is going on.

1. flansquee!
2. lesigh
3. flyboy
4. Josh victory is mine
5. Captain My Captain

1.    I picked this up from [livejournal.com profile] graphicalrum.  It's Joe Flanigan (obv.), and every fangirl (or fanboy) needs a squee icon.

2.    This is a cap from the A&E miniseries Pride and Prejudice (the only real one!).  It's Lydia Bennett, and that pose is just so perfect for a bored/exasperated sigh.  The text and flower thing were done with GIMP.

3.    I picked this one up from someone, not sure who.  It's one of the SGA promo shots with the totally hot leather jackets that they really should have kept wearing.  I use this kind of on a random basis, just when I feel like looking at the Flan.

4.    I got this from either [personal profile] scrollgirl  or [livejournal.com profile] pocky_slash.  It's a quote from The West Wing, which Josh says after they get their Supreme Court nominee to agree.  It's part of a silly monologue, which also contains the lines, "Bring me the finest muffins and bagels in the land," and "It is done, and I have done it."  This is my "yay, me" icon.

5.    I got this from [livejournal.com profile] donutsweeper .  It's Jack Harkness saluting the Tenth Doctor as he's returning to Torchwood after the Year that Never Was.  That scene always got me, and this is one of my leftover TW icons, even though I'm not really in that fandom anymore.

You Should Be Allowed to Vote

You got 15/15 questions correct.

Generally speaking, you're very well informed.

If you vote this election, you'll know exactly who (and what) you'll be voting for.

You're likely to have strong opinions, and you have the facts to back them up.

Also, on an unrelated note, I have found a Halloween costume! Mom reminded me today while we were waiting in line for an hour and a half to vote that I had inherited a kimono that my grandfather brought back from Korea during the war. So I will be something to do with that, if anyone has suggestions, do tell!

The Big Read reckons that the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books they've printed. Well let's see.

1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicise those you intend to read.
3) Underline the books you LOVE.
4) Reprint this list in your own LJ so we can try and track down these people who've read 6 and force books upon them ;-)

I resisted this meme the first time through. I've given in. )

Gay Rights

"Why is it that, as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands?" - Ernest Gaines

We would like to know who really believes in gay rights on livejournal. There is no bribe of a miracle or anything like that. If you truly believe in gay rights, then repost this and title the post as "Gay Rights". If you don't believe in gay rights, then just ignore this. Thanks.

Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.

It's a start....

meme from [livejournal.com profile] nentari

Make a list of five of your favourite series (no peeking at the questions first), then answer the questions behind the cut.

1. House
2. Doctor Who
3. Torchwood
4. The West Wing
5. Numb3rs

Here are my answers )
rhia_starsong: (Five/Turlough)
1. Leave me a comment saying anything random, like your favourite lyric to your current favourite song. Or your favourite kind of sandwich. Something random. Whatever you like.
2. I respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better.
3. You will update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and offer to ask someone else in the post.
5. When others comment asking to be asked, you will ask them five questions.

From [livejournal.com profile] nentari

Very well, you've asked for it:

1. Jamie, Turlough, Two. Shag, marry, cliff?
2. Who was your first fictional crush?
3. You're stuck inside an elevator with Gregory House. What do you do?
4. The obvious TARDIS o'clock question: what 5 places in time and space would you go to and why?
5. Give us a controversial fannish theory - any fandom.

Silly answers ahoy. )
