This journal is now friends only. Comment here to be added.

ETA: I have decided to unlock most of this journal; a few entries will still be flocked, but most of my ramblings will now return to public status. :)

Back we go

Well, here we are again, people flocking to DW since LJ and the Russian mob are back at it. Perhaps this migration will be more complete and we can just stay here. We'll see.  I'll try to connect with all my friends here over the weekend.

ETA: This was a much faster and easier import than the last mass exodus!  I'm falling in love with all my old icons that went inactive when I gave up my paid account, and the fandoms that gave rise to them.  I wish I had something witty or clever to contribute, but these days I use up all my brain power at work.

So, after several days, my answers to the meme from [livejournal.com profile] wings128:

The first ten songs on my iPod's shuffle in order:

1. Got A Hold On Me - Hanson
2. Maybe World - Mary Chapin Carpenter
3. Anvil Chorus - Glenn Miller
4. Firefly-Main Title - Sonny Rhodes
5. In The Mood - Glenn Miller
6. Hey - Hanson
7. Invincible - OK Go
8. American Patrol - Glenn Miller
9. Been There Before - Hanson
10. Flesh and Bone (Battlestar Galactica Season 1) - Bear McCreary

Awesome, my drive to work in the morning will be filled with good music, looks like.

Um, I don't know ten people on LJ anymore, so whoever sees this and feels compelled to answer, consider yourselves tagged?

Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] wings128! Hope it's a great one!

I realised all my fairies/wizardesses/whatevers were looking more like Wings, so here's one that's more Rhia (plus some extra elf guy).

They let the females have much better fashion sense in this game.

Hopefully this post turns out properly from my iPad... I had to try the adorable fairy from [livejournal.com profile] wings128!

ETA: As mentioned in a comment below, the LOTR-themed wizards.

Whee!  I got my totally awesome-looking 'Hawkguy' comic yesterday, courtesy of the fabulous [livejournal.com profile] pocky_slash.  Thanks, Kait!  It looks cool so far; I got a few pages in last night before bed.

In other non-news...well, that's about it.  Doing some re-reading, working back through my favourite C.J. Cherryh novels, including the Foreigner books, and discovered I had missed the three or so latest, so I've got those to read this weekend.  Still such an amazing series.  I even managed to impress my mom; normally, she just doesn't get why I read SF/F, and she looked at one of them the other day and asked whether the books all seem alike after a while.  I told her no, and why, but she seemed really surprised when I told her that, at heart, the Foreigner series are political thrillers.  Point to me.

We'll be watching the Super Bowl tonight, not that we particularly care who wins since our sorry team finished 7-9, like most of the rest of the league.  Although, Luke Kuechly did get Defensive Rookie of the Year, so that's something good.  Anyway, I'll put in a vote for the Ravens, just because.  Not that I really think any of the rest of you care overmuch. ;)

Ganked from [livejournal.com profile] aadarshinah:

In honour of All Hallow's Eve, I'm inviting trick-or-treaters to my 'door.'

Comment with "Trick or Treat" to this post and... well, you know the drill. Treats can be anything that strikes my fancy (pics of fave actors or pairings, graphics, a few words why I'm glad to have you on my flist, one sentence fics, etc. etc.).

The more "houses" to visit the more fun it'll be, so go ahead, open your journal and help spread the fun!

Um, maybe not so much the fic offerings, but who knows, I might be inspired!

Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] neevebrody!  Hope it's a fantastic one, filled with great things (even if I can't special-order JFlan for you!).

So yesterday Jen and I had a great deal of fun at the local RenFaire; it was opening weekend, and we mostly went to scope out stuff for a few weeks later, when we shall return with Muppet and Jo. Straight away, we met a guy who learned of Jen's fibrecraft interest and directed us to the stall of a woman who spins her own yarn. Jen found an absolute deal on some unspun wool that reminded me of the colour of the ocean in Bermuda.

Right next...tent...to that was a woman who was selling handmade journals in Celtic motifs. We got to talking to her for a few minutes and learned that her car had exploded (with her in it, narrowly escaping injury) and burned down her house and the group's entire RenFaire stock. The other artists had had to send an emergency shipment of stock so they would have something with which to open. Poor thing, it hadn't completely sunk in yet that everything was gone, but she was trying to look on the bright side and said it made it easy to start over without making the same mistakes again. I gave her a hug and bought an awesome journal, of which there will be pictures.

We had fun talking to a drag queen, the Lady Jessica, who invited us to a drag club in Charlotte and was very amusing. She also had a very lovely dress, which she said she had made.

We stopped by a cobbler's stall and looked at some moccasin boots that had buttons made from international currency: there were some with Australian ha'pennies, some coins from Ghana, and a lot of US buffalo nickels. Neato. We eventually ended up at a stall that sold chainmail garments, and the guy there was funny and friendly and encouraged us to try stuff on, so I tried on a gorgeous belt (more of a hip wrap, really) with crystals and little bells. It looked pretty awesome over jeans, and I think I'll probably buy it when we go back. I'll post pics if I do.

It was highly enjoyable October weather, cloudy and cool enough for jeans but not a jacket. We ate dinner out, too, at Red Robin. I ordered their version of chicken parm, and boy, I thought Commons was stingy with pasta sauce... They actually had to bring me more sauce in a little cup. When we got back to the house, Godlet was home from a sailing regatta in Wilmington, and Jen was hilariously happy to see him. Oh, wow. We had a lot of fun laughing at her.

So, I get to try something I've never done before this weekend. I'm going apple-picking with Jen and Godlet on Sunday.  I've been berrying loads of times, but apples are not exactly prevalent here, so I have zero experience with this.  It sounds like fun, though, and hanging out with friends is always fun, so.

In my own defence, I really did think enough of my symptoms sounded like what I've heard people say about flu.  Ridiculously tired, weird nausea, etc.  I really did feel kind of crummy all day.  So maybe it was a twenty-four-hour bug or something, because it cleared up after dinner and I had a wonderful evening with [info]jcgenzieandco watching tv-on-dvd.  We watched several episodes of Cowboy Bebop (a big hit), and moved on to a few highlights of Series 2 Torchwood (aka, softcore porn).  Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang was a big hit, as well it should be.  ::nodnod::

I'm definitely feeling better today, and I totally attribute it to the late-night grocery run for donuts (mmm, Krispy Kreme).

RL update

So, I've had an interesting week or so. This past Saturday was, sadly, probably the highlight of the last two weeks, partly because I spent all of it on campus, and partly because I got to go shopping with [profile] jcgenzie_and_co

The college held this 'Fiscal Fitness' seminar for seniors, and, even though I won't be graduating until December, I figured now was as good a time as any to get the info, especially since I won't be a student when they have it again next year.  The deciding factor was totally the fact that part of the seminar was being given by our beloved former college president, whom every single person, not just on campus, but probably in town, too, calls by his first name.

Jen kinda slept in accidentally through the morning part, which was actually pretty informative and rather fun, but she came for the afternoon part, so I wasn't lonely anymore :D  Also, we got the comfy seats this time, in the front.

But the real joy of the day was the trip over to Northlake so Jen could see if the bookstore there had a book she's been looking for and doesn't want to purchase from Amazon.  I offered the use of my car, not all that eager to go back home to the empty house and do work, and we gave ourselves two hours.

Now, I have to admit, I have been lusting after a pair of red Chucks for a while now, and I decided now was the perfect opportunity to check on the price; I resisted them in February, as [livejournal.com profile] kayliemalinza knows.  (Btw, I still think those green ones look AWESOME with the rainbow laces!)

Anyway, since the ones at Journey's were still $10 off list price, and they actually had a size that fit me this time, I bought them.  And love them.^^

And Jen totally saved me from spending ~$70 at Border's (she made me pick one hardback and put the other back), so this trip was made of win for me. (Though the store didn't even have her book at all. :( )

Yeah, not much else of note; still hanging in there.  Way too much to do.
